Charm City Art Space

Charm City Art Space is a music venue/art space located at 1729 Maryland Avenue, in Baltimore, Maryland, in the Station North arts district. This area is home to several DIY projects including the Velocipede Bike Project, and the Jerk Store. It is also known as the space, the art space, or the CCAS.

The CCAS opened its doors in the Summer of 2002, and hosted its first show July 1st, 2002. While similar venues in the area have closed for numerous reasons, the CCAS remains open to this day. The CCAS is collectivly run, and has a membership policy to teach and allow anyone to book a show. Meetings are held monthly to discuss finances, membership, and maintenance and repair of the space.

The goal of the CCAS is to provide a community run facility where artists and musicians can showcase their work. The CCAS is a non-discriminatory venue where people of all ages, genders, races, and religions may come and feel welcome. The venue is also drug and alcohol free.

Since inception the CCAS has been a mixed used facility having frequent art exhibits, as well as a large zine library. The current curators for the gallery are Nolen Strals, and Daniel Shae.

The CCAS was started primarily as a music venue for smaller independent music acts. While the CCAS is not genre specific, most of the groups are Hardcore, Punk, or indie acts. To this date the venue has hosted over 500 shows in 4 years, for bands that have grown to national success such as The Thermals, Modern Life is War, Majority Rule, as well as many others.

The CCAS has drawn influences from other larger independent music venues such as 924 Gilman, and ABC No Rio, and the Mr. Roboto Project.
