[edit] History
The "British Institute of Management" (BIM) was formed in 1947 as the first professional body for managers in the United Kingdom. In 1992, BIM merged with the Institution of Industrial Managers (IIM) to form the Institute of Management (IM).
IM was granted a Royal Charter in 2002 and became the "Chartered Management Institute". The following year CMI began awarding the title of "Chartered Manager" to members who complete a process of accreditation.
