Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad Company was a very small New York railroad that went from West Davenport, New York, to Cooperstown, New York. It was later taken over by the Delaware and Hudson Railway, and became the Cooperstown Branch, and the part of the line that started at West Davenport, and went to where it crossed the Delaware and Hudson was abandoned. The remainder of the line was sold in the early 1970s to Delaware Otsego Corporation after the DO Corp was forced to sell their original, ex NYC/U&D RRR line following the construction of Interstate 88 between Binghamton and Albany. The DO Corp ran passenger and freight service between Cooperstown Junction, NY and Cooperstown, NY until the early 1980s. The Leatherstocking Railway Historical Society, Leatherstocking Chapter NRHS, purchased the line in the 1990s and today operates seasonal excursions between Cooperstown and Milford, retaining the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley name. The southern half of the line is used to bring in equipment from the Delaware & Hudson (CPR).
