Coronado High School (El Paso)

Coronado High School, located on the west side of El Paso, Texas, is a public high school under the El Paso Independent School District. Its mascot, inspired by a natural silhouette on its Franklin Mountain backdrop, is the Thunderbird, shortened to T-Bird, and its slogan is "The Pride of the West Side." The school's name honors Spanish conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, whose expeditions in the southwest took him through what is now El Paso. Coronado's school colors are blue and gold.

Academics at Coronado include the standard fare in math, science, and the humanities. Most incoming students from Morehead and Lincoln Middle Schools will begin with a six-unit courseload that includes IPC (Integrated Physics and Chemistry), English, Math (either Algebra I or Geometry), World Geography, a Foreign Language, and an Elective.
The mission of Coronado High School is to advance the academic, artistic, emotional, physical, and social education of every student in order to develop productive citizens.
The Thunderbird is the school's mascot. As the Wikipedia link notes, "The Thunderbird is a mythical creature common to Native American religion. Its name comes from that supposition that the beating of its enormous wings causes thunder and stirs the wind."
