Cuno Power Station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cuno power station was a combined heat and power station for the current and heat production, which were operated since 1908. It is in stove corner at the Ruhr accumulated here to the raking local lake and stands out clearly before the wooded Ardeyhang. The 240 m high, "Cuno" chimney mentioned is far away visible often only briefly and is considered to drivers on A 1 as modern landmark Herdeckes. 2005 starting from May large parts of the power station torn off around place to create for on place modern GuD power station which can be established. The Cuno power station was designated after the Hagener at that time mayor Willi Cuno, which along-created the regional energy enterprise "electrical Mark".
[edit] History
The Herdecker power station was 1908 the first work of the electrical Marks and the power plant was one of the first pure steam turbine systems, which worked since beginning also with German hard coal from the close Ruhr district. In the twenties the work applied because of its at that time as particularly high estimated efficiency of approximately 25 per cent even European-wide as modelful. After the First World War for this location the coal dust firing was developed and the first four coal dust boilers were successfully taken to 1927 in enterprise. 1932 were then inaugurated in the Cuno power station the first slag tap furnace of Germany. Several extensions and modernizations took place in the time after the Second World War. The new "block H2" supplied since 3 December 1962 with a net achievement of 90 MW river from hard coal. But 1970 were changed over the firing to natural gas, because the fuel had before become very expensive coal. 1982, exactly at present the broad public discussion around sour rains and forest dying, took place the back conversion to coal, which was at that time very disputed locally because of the more harmful emissions. Because of the renewed coal firing and the intensified law situation the building of the approximately 220 meters high chimney became necessary, which coins/shapes since then the landscape. For starting the turbine over a pipeline referred natural gas was used or, in the case of a supplying interruption, oil, which was locally reproached in two tanks. Starting from 1983 the block H2 supplied also long-distance heating for Herdecker of industrie and industrial concerns as well as private households. To continuous strong protests among other things of citizens' initiatives then 1988 at this time a very modern flue gas desulphurating plant (REA) went into enterprise, which filtered about 90 % of the sulfur dioxides contained in the flue gas. The REA worked in combination with electrostatic filters and denitrification plants. After the power station had reached toward end 90's its economic life span, it was operated still for some years season and consumption-dependently. Last, starting from 2001, for reductions of costs with special permission also secondary fuels, as for example animal flour and testweise carpet remainders, were fired. On 5 March 2004 the hard coal-fired block H2 (Pelektrisch = 86 MW, Pthermisch = 25 MW) in the Cuno combined heat and power station produced officially its last kilowatt-hour, for a period of transition as cold reserve was reproached and then for 2005 torn off. Altogether the block H2 supplied about 17.5 million MWh river since 1962. In the late summer 2004 for the maintenance of the long-distance heat supply after locking of the main block a natural gas block combined heat and power station, consisting of two Deutz 20-cylinder natural gas engines and two steam boilers, was taken in enterprise. In order to be able to prove the open spaces necessary for the licensing procedure for a new 400 MW gas-fired power station at the same location, starting from May 2005 all were torn off except the monument-protected buildings. In order to come into the benefit from conveyances to, the new plant must be ready for use already 2007. Up to the block H2 and the monument-protected parts the existing plant was already entkernt 1998/1999 for a new building discussed at that time, which was not realized,
[edit] Monumental protection/tourisme
The brick fronts of the old boiler houses VI and VII stood up to the cancelling on the part of the upper monument authority in cathedrals in February 2006 as industrial thinking marks under monument protection. Was justified the abolition of the monument protection with economic unreasonableness for the enterprise. In the context of the route of the industrial culture the buildings were also a routistic attraction in the Ruhr valley. With the instruction for the monument protection abolition the mechanism of a small, for publicly accessible is connected documentation/information place for the history of the energy use at the location. Anywhere differently to see the type of the inclined elevator, which verbandt the work with the goods course track connection which was more highly because of the Ardeyhang, was not a construction of MAN ONES. The inclined elevator for coal Gueterwagons was likewise torn off in May 2005, although it was singular in Germany. That approximately 220 meters high chimney does not stand under monument protection, however height a NIST box for moving falcons is in approximately 80 m, in which after successful resettlement already several generations drew new generation up.
