Dark Forest

In the Redwall universe, Dark Forest is the afterlife for "goodbeasts" (A heaven of sorts). It is rather mysterious, described as a silent forest where the inhabitants (mainly the spirits of good creatures) are completely free. It is mentioned several times in the Redwall series, and Sunflash the Mace even witnesses the gates of Dark Forest in a hallucination. The vermin refer to the place they go after they are dead as "Hellgates". Hellgates is apparently on fire, or presumed to be by the "vermin" who seem to swear by it.
As in the case of other fictional afterlives, Dark Forest/Hellgates seems to have a ruler of some sort. Gabool the Wild referred to this creature as "the Dark One", whereas foxes believe themselves to be the descendants of this ruler, whom they call Vulpin.
Dark Forest is also the name of an Apple II computer game created by Tom Mornini (tmornini@infomania.com).
Dark Forest is also the name of Canadian viking metal band.
The Dark Forest is also a room in the titilar temple during the second and third seasons of Legends of the Hidden Temple. Composed of two trees in the former Tomb of the Ancient Kings, the player would have to either find a key within one of the two trees to unlock the doors in it, or plow through the wall connecting it to the bottom-left corner of the temple. However, sometimes, one of the trees would be inhabited by the spirit of a Temple Guard, and if it grabbed the player, that player would have to give up a Pendant of Life, if they had one, or be taken out of the temple, if not.
