David Greco
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Greco (born August 6, 1986 in Civitavecchia, Italy) is an aspiring Italian racecar driver with three years experience in cars preceded by three years experience racing karts. Greco began learning to drive karts in 1998 at the age of 12 and continued driving arrive-and-drive rental karts until becoming involved in organized racing in 2000. While Italian in origin, Greco is a man of the world having lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil for four years before moving to Toronto, Canada for another four; before returning to his native Civitavecchia, Italy in October, 2006.
Greco continues to pursue a real racing career, and while 2006 was a year in which a small budget was sought, the year became one of waiting and ultimately no driving. Among the possible targets for 2007, for David Greco, is the Formula Renault Eurocup. Greco has experience in these cars from his time as test driver for the Gelles Racing Team in 2004. Greco was a quick study and impressed many onlookers during his FR test days. His early weeks in the Skip Barber National Championship were similarly impressive. Said one Skip Barber official at Lime Rock in 2005: "We're pretty excited about David, it's not that often we have someone show up out of the blue and do as well as he has so far." Which included a podium in his first race, and a front row start for his third.
Like many aspiring racers, Greco awaits the financial support that is the sine qua non of jump-starting a career in motorsports.
Greco is an established simulation racer who currently driver in the Formula SimRacing World Championship for the Kiwi Virtual team. Formula SimRacing is a professional league in which drivers and teams earn prize money. He also races in the Armaroli Sim Racing World Cup for Team Italy. Greci is the only driver to have represented Italy this season. The winning nation in the Armaroli championship wins $1000 USD. Prior to these, Greco won both the 2005-02 SimCar Champ3 and 2006-01 Champ2 championships at SimCar. Among the competition at SimCar is (now) former Champ Car World Series and future NASCAR driver A.J. Allmendinger.

[edit] Sim Racing
Sim Racing, using racing video games for the PC, is becoming an increasingly valid form of racing. While it certainly does not substitute for real racing experience, sim racing offers some good training for real racing. Moreover, sim racing can offer drivers of real cars some advantage in learning circuit layouts; quite famously, Jacques Villeneuve mentioned in 1996 that he had learned the layout of the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit using a video game.
