From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Jackman is an internationally renown Evangelical Christian speaker, and the President of the Proclamation Trust. He founded the Cornhill Training Course in 1991 and was previously Minister of Above Bar Church, Southampton.
After time as a teacher in Exeter, in 1968 David became a staff worker with the Inter-Varsity Fellowship of Students (now known as UCCF). In 1974 he wrote his first short book, Starting as a Student: A Christian Approach, an 88 page pocketbook designed to prepare students for University or College life.
Jackman then attended Trinity College, Bristol where he studied under the eminent Evangelical theologians J Alec Motyer and J. I. Packer. He moved to Southampton in 1976 to work as assistant minister of Above Bar Church under Leith Samuel, becoming the Senior Minister in 1981. His time at Above Bar was noted for expository preaching and throughout this time he became a regular speaker at the Keswick Convention.
After 15 years at Above Bar Church, Jackman founded the Cornhill Training Course in London in 1991. The course is a ministry of the Proclamation Trust, and is designed to train Biblical preachers in exegesis, exposition and communication skills. In the 13 years that David was the director of the course over 700 students from nearly 40 countries had completed the course.
In 2004 he became the president of the Proclamation Trust, and is now involved in Trust conferences for preachers and in producing distance learning materials and books. David is a well known speaker at the Keswick Convention and Word Alive, and he speaks in conventions as far abroad as the Hong Kong Keswick Convention. His expository writing work includes commentaries on Judges & Ruth, the Letters of John and Let’s Study 1 Corinthians. Other books include Understanding the Church, Spirit of Truth and Teaching the Christian Hope.
In addition to his role at the Proclamation Trust, David is a visiting lecturer at Oak Hill Theological College as an expert in Independent Church Leadership and the chairman of the 9:38 committee, a national evangelical interdenominational organisation established to help people consider the possibilities of paid gospel ministry.
David is married to Heather and they have two children, Nicholas and Philippa. His interests include piano playing, reading historical biography, walking and spectator sports, especially Southampton F.C..
