Don Bolles (July 28, 1928 - June 13, 1976) was a reporter for the Arizona Republic newspaper, published at the time by Nina Mason Pulliam.
On June 2, 1976, Bolles' car was destroyed by a bomb as it sat in a parking lot in Phoenix, Arizona. He lost both of his legs and one of his arms. He was hospitalized for 11 days until dying, just enough time for him to return to consciousness and say "They finally got me. The Mafia. Emprise. Find John (Harvey) Adamson." The exact motive for the crime remains a mystery, but many believe the Mafia was responsible. Bolles had written stories about organized crime; he had also attacked a powerful businessman named Kemper Marley.
He was also the brother of Richard Nelson Bolles, author of the best-selling job-hunting book, What Color Is Your Parachute?
