[edit] High School Years
Stallworth attended Grant High School (Sacramento, California) and was a star in football and track & field. Stallworth was a high school teammate of former Minnesota Vikings running back, Onterrio Smith.
[edit] College Years
Stallworth went to the University of Tennessee, where his nickname was "Hands," as his teammates marveled at Donté's ability to come up with seemingly impossible catches on a regular basis.
[edit] Pro years
He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints with the 13th pick in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft, out of Tennessee. On August 28, 2006 he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for LB Mark Simoneau and a conditional 4th round pick in the 2007 Draft. The Eagles made the deal for him because they needed a speed receiver to line up at the X in Andy Reid's version of the West Coast Offense. Prior to Donte Stallworth's trade, Todd Pinkston was to suit up as the X receiver. On Aug 30, 2006 Todd Pinkston was released. In his first game with the Eagles, he caught 6 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown. Due to a nagging hamstring injury, Stallworth has only played in 4 games for the Eagles.
His exceptional speed and quickness make him a difficult receiver for corners to cover. Donté is one of the fastest receivers (a reputed 4.2 40 time at the combine) in the NFL, and his ability to catch the ball makes him a threat in any offense.
[edit] Trivia
- He is reputed to have run a 4.18 40 Time at the combine while tripping.
- After being traded to the Eagles for the 06-07 season, Stallworth chose to wear number 18. Many people thought that this meant that he was the Anti-Terrell Owens. Owens was a receiver for the Eagles from 2004-2005 who clashed with quaterback Donovan McNabb, Head Coach Andy Reid, and Eagles Management among others. After numerous controversies, Owens was suspended for the final nine games of the 2005 season and subsequently released. He wore number 81. However, in an interview with Cold Pizza's Dana Jacobson, Stallworth said he chose the number 18 as it was the number he wore in high school.
- While he was still playing college football at the University of Tennessee, he was featured in a commercial for the videogame NCAA Football '99 catching a long touchdown pass from quarterback Tee Martin.
