Eaglesham

Eaglesham is a village south of Glasgow, Scotland. It is southwest of Newton Mearns, south of Busby, and west of East Kilbride. Set amongst the hills of East Renfrewshire, situated at the northern boundary of Fenwick Moor, the village has several trout reservoirs nearby. To the south lies mainly farmland and forested areas. There are two experimental wind turbines south of Eaglesham. The population of the village is in excess of 4,000. Close to Eaglesham, Linn Products have a state-of-the-art Hi-Fi manufacturing plant. The town has a Catholic and a Protestant church, and is served by Eaglesham Primary School.
Eaglesham was originally planned as a weaving town and is known for its 18th-century architecture, chiefly a mill and workers' cottages. Eaglesham is noted for being near to where Rudolph Hess was captured after flying from Germany during World War Two. The two oldest streets in Eaglesham are Polnoon Street and Montgomery Street. They both climb a steep hill and meet at the top. The addition of Mid Road connecting them forms a distinctive "A" shape, which can be seen from the air when approaching Glasgow Airport. Between the streets lies a partially wooded park called the Orry. Eaglesham's football team is Eaglesham Amateurs.
There is a tradition of hosting a village fair every two years, however this ceased after the 2000 fair. A village committee was setup in 2004 and the fair was resurrected in 2005.
