Emil Filla

Emil Filla (1882 - 1953) was a leader of the Avante Garde movement in Prague between WWI and WWII.
In 1906 he graduated from the Prague Academy. He was a member of artists groups such as Octave and Manes.
A professor at the University of Applied Art, he idolized Vincent van Gogh, Pierre Bonnard and Edvard Munch.
After 1909 he painted primarily in the Cubist style, it was very important time in his life. When was our country in occupation he painted struggles among animals, in reality it was his anxiety and scare.
During WWII, He was imprisoned in a concentration camp. After his release, he painted landscapes.
