End (football)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An End in American football is a player that lines up at the very end of the line of scrimmage. On the defensive team, they are known as defensive ends. On the offensive team, they are the tight ends.
More than 30 years ago, the term only referred to an offensive player who assisted the guards, tackles, and center in blocking defenders. This role has largely been replaced by the use of additional wide receiver or tight end.
