Fairfield, Victoria
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fairfield is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is shared across the Local Government Area of the City of Yarra and the City of Darebin. Because it is situated on what many regard as the fringes of Melbourne's popular and much-revived 'inner city', gentrification has been strong, and property prices are high. Fairfield's commercial outlets have prospered in recent years, with a recent influx of cafes, bars and specialist shops to Station Street, the commercial hub. To the south is the Yarra river and surrounding parkland, and the much-admired Fairfield Boathouse.
It is serviced by Fairfield Railway Station, on the Hurstbridge line. Adjacent to the station, facing North-East, is a 6 metre tall wooden dog.
Yarra Bend is a locality in Fairfield.
Fairfield is predominently residential, with a small north-eastern pocket remaining a light industrial area.
It also features the 3 storey coffee palace, the Grandview Hotel, built in 1888.
