Fresh Records
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fresh Records was the name of two defunct independent record labels that were most popular in the 1980s, one in the United States and one in the United Kingdom.
- Fresh Records (USA) - a bigger independent record label, and sub-label to Sleeping Bag Records, most popular during the height of '80s New York hip-hop. Once home to pioneering artists such as Public Enemy, EPMD, K.R.S. One, Doug E. Fresh and Toya G., the label faltered and finally was absorbed by Jive Records.
- Fresh Records (UK) - a smaller and unrelated independent record label, based in the United Kingdom. Most popular (and successful) in the latter 1970s, the label once supported punk groups like Play Dead and competed with labels such as 4AD. The label ran out of cash and went bankrupt in 1982. A dance label of the same name began in the UK in 1992. [1]
Fresh Records is also part of the name of several independent and boutique record labels including:
- Minty Fresh Records
- Fresh Vinyl Records
- Hot and Fresh Records
- Royal Freshness Records
- Fresh Bling Records
