Gällivare Municipality is a Swedish municipality in Norrbotten County, in northern Sweden. Its seat is in the town Gällivare with 8,400 inhabitants. Gällivare is situated at the northern end of the Inlandsbanan railway line, just about 100km north of the arctic circle.
Adjacent to the town Gällivare is Malmberget, population 5,500, known as a site for iron ore extraction from deep mines by LKAB. The third largest municipal town is Koskullskulle with 1,000 inhabitants.
Outside Gällivare, the ski-resort Dundret is located. The ski-resort is equipped with six lifts and ten groomed slopes along with a conference center and hotel named "Björnfällan". The ski season stretches from the end of October all the way into early may.
Gällivare also hosts an airport, the closest one to national parks Sarek and Padjelanta making it popular for hikers.
The largest sports association in Gällivare is Gällivare Sportklubb (GSK). GSK's colors are red and white.
