Nova is the code name of a Terran Ghost in the Blizzard Entertainment game, StarCraft: Ghost.
Nova was born November Annabella Terra, a member of a Terran Confederacy aristrocratic "Old Family". She was isolated from the outside world, and did not develop her psionic abilities. After the outbreak of war between the Terrans, Protoss and Zerg she remained isolated until her family was murdered by anti-Confederate terrorists, causing her to lose control of her psionic powers. Hundreds of people, many of whom were innocent, were slain.
Nova had to flee, living on the streets. She was forced into the employ of the criminal leader, Fagin (obviously a reference to Oliver Twist). He forced her to scan the minds of his associates, rooting out hidden enemies.
Eventually she met Confederate Agent Malcolm Kelerchian. He wanted her to enroll in the Ghost Academy because of her potent psionic abilities. She was informed that upon graduation, all Ghosts routinely underwent a memory wipe. Nova promptly signed up.
At around age twenty, Nova graduated at the top of her class. Her psionic abilities were well beyond any of the other recruits, and she completed her physical and telepathic training in record time.
Today Nova cannot remember her past, nor does she care. She is now a Ghost of the Terran Dominion's Nova Squadron, who follows orders efficiently, hunting down the enemies of the Dominion.
While seemingly loyal to the Terran Dominion, which Nova Squadron has joined, her true loyalty is to Colonel Jackson Hauler.
Nova uses much in the way of new technology and new psionic techniques in her missions as a student in the Ghost Academy, including psionic sight (which enables her to see heat signatures) and psionic speed (which quadruples her speed), in addition to traditional Terran Ghost techniques and equipment.
Blizzard Entertainment previously announced that Nova can use the Terran cy-blade, the FWGS energy pistol (capable of a minor "lockdown" effect), many new types of grenades, psionic shock (which dazes an opponent and inflicts short-term memory loss, which the opponent doesn't notice). As StarCraft: Ghost has not been released, these abilities are subject to change.
After Swingin' Ape Studios was purchased by Blizzard and merged into their console design team, Nova's look changed from realistic to more vector graphic's looking.
Though not official stated, the StarCraft: Ghost project has been effectively terminated.
