God of Shamisen
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
God of Shamisen is a rock band led by shamisen master, Kevin Kmetz. Though much of the band's music is steeped in traditional Japanese structure, genres such as progressive rock, metal and funk are regularly featured in performance.
Other band members of God of Shamisen include Lee Smith (drums), Dave McCoy (guitar & bass) and Mark Thornton (guitar & bass). Lee Smith and Kevin Kmetz also became members of Estradasphere in 2004 along with Adam Stacey shortly after John Whooley left to pursue other interests. Kevin Kmetz performs with Adam Stacey in the band Fishtank Ensemble. Mark Thornton also occasionally performs with Estradasphere (usually providing rap vocals on the song "Turtle Power").
God of Shamisen have yet to release an album, but have been touring through 2005, the same year the band was formed.
Early tracks from the band are similar in that they are all titled similarly - they all end in the word "attack!" Some examples are "Dragon String Attack," "The Science Fiction of Ray Bradbury Attack," and "California Burrito Dog Attack."
The use of the word has since become a sort of trend with fans, especially those who are familiar with the band's MySpace page.
