[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:HenryGreenEngine.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:HenryGreenEngine.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 18:30, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More images

The toolserver report at [1] shows you have uploaded some 28 images that are not tagged correctly. The "permission" you mention from the fan site is bogus, as that person is not the copyright owner and doesn't have any rights to give out that way. However, the images appear to be tv screenshots, and so our tag {{tv-screenshot}} seems appropriate. Please add that tag to all of your Thomas uploads. Thanks for helping! Stan 14:42, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

This has been done. Gonzerelli 04:01, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Victor the old engine

When proposing speedy deletion of an article, please do not overwrite the article with "SPEEDY DELETION". This can be considered vandalism. Please use the {{db}} tag, or the other tags found at WP:CSD. Use these tags only if the article actually fulfils one of the criteria at WP:CSD. Thank you. Sandstein 17:23, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

In this case, merging the content into the main article would be appropriate (see WP:FICT). You can do this by copy-pasting the content to the appropriate spot in the main article, and then overwriting the content in the original article with a redirect to the main article. [edit] Help with a link on the Thomas page

Hi David,

I've attempted to add a page to [Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends] about "come ride the rails..." but it seems that it must not be an appropriate page, or else the content is sub-par. I tried reading the explanations but I couldn't tell if it was considered valdalism or off topic. Thanks for the input. Alexa411 21:06, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TTTE - Series 10 problems

Hello, I've seen your addition to the Series 10 talk page, and although I'm sad to admit it Emily does deserve to remain on the page... she's more likely than some of the other characters that have been put on the page... lol.... I believe the trouble with your edits is down to a user named User:ZacheryWanzer who constantly reverts your edits... I have posted a message on his talk page getting him to reply... however, he's adamant on ignoring this.... I still believe the page should be blocked from IP's, reply to me on the TaF - series 10 talk page... it'll be easier... Foxearth 6/6/06

Will go into excruciating detail on the Talk page if and when the next edit/revert comes up. Gonzerelli 13:14, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Zachary Wanzer is seemingly still ignoring signs that we have both placed before his very eyes stating that the page is unneccessary if he keeps removing all our content, and narrowing it down to one three line paragraph - which is ludicrous... I dunno about you but I feel further measures/action should be taken to keep the page secure, and safe from IP vandals... Foxearth 8/6/06
I'm not familiar with the procedure for this... But I will support this if you set it into action. Gonzerelli 13:56, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hello, Gonzerelli

Hullo, I'm relatively new to the Wikipedia 'editing scene' so I hope you will forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I'm interesting in joining your TtTE editing group, as it is something that interests me, having grown up with. Will also help me learn Wiki editing as I will be writing about something I know a little about!

Regards,

[edit] Reverting Redirects (TTE pages)

Hi Gonzerelli. Look at Mavis the Quarry Diesel and you'll see that it has reappeared again.

We've both re-instated the redirect on this page before now, so I think stronger action is called for. I don't really want these pages deleted, if possible, since there are cases where some of the relevant information has NOT been transferred, and it's useful to refer back for clarification. (In Mavis's case, the BR protoype information is not present in the TV Series article - I don't know whether it has been added recently. Sorry, forgot to look!).)

I'm starting to wonder if the reason for all these un-redirects is because the pages for the Railway Series do not exist for these 'minor characters' yet. All the re-directs for Mavis go to the TV series page, which does not cover the books' aspect. Perhaps if the Railway Series aspects were covered somewhere, this would help reduce the problem?

[edit] Oliver the Great Western Engine - separate page, or re-direct?

Hi again! Your recent change to Railway engines (Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends)#Oliver, to remove the link to Oliver the Great Western Engine seems to be verging on 'edit war' territory! I have no particular problem with your edit, but I think I can see why it is happening.

If you look at the linked page for Oliver, you will see that the article has a lot of text (actually, of little interest to a fan of The Railway Series!  :o)). Hence, there are several users who presumably feel that it is 'the main article', and therefore should be linked-to.

I haven't tackled the link issue, since I think the separate page must be tackled first. WP:THOMAS identified Oliver as a 'Major character', without his own page, but this doesn't seem to have been reflected elsewhere. Even Major characters in The Railway Series - where Oliver and Bill & Ben are the only major (steam engine) characters without a 'Main Article' link - cross-links to Oliver the Great Western Engine, which is primarilly TV Series text.

Hope you can understand my reasoning... EdJogg 09:28, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comment?

Hi, Gonzerelli. Why have you added a comment on my user page which said, "the vast majority of the engines depicted below are not real characters from either series. They appear to be this user's own creations"? Felix Cheng 23:36, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Railway Series Books - picture juggle

Hi. Sorry to be a pain, but I'm not convinced that the revised picture layout is an improvement. I haven't gone so far as to revert your change (yet), as I decided to comment here first.

HonestTom's layout effectively 'tabulated' the information without the need for a table, and I thought he had done a good job. Changing the images to left-anchored has removed all the bullet points from the first few lines of information, and has 'undone' the tabulation for these titles - it is no longer possible to scan down the page for a title and immediately see the date/illustrator/story titles.

I'm not sure that there is actually a way round this without simply reverting your changes. Is there really a problem with having all the images on the right?

EdJogg 09:19, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

I didn't realise the bullet points had disappeared, and that's the main reason I'm going to revert my own edit and put all the images back on the right. If it weren't for this particular effect on the layout, I would prefer the "stagger". Gonzerelli 09:40, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Agreed - the 'stagger' would be a better layout, but I think only if the text were more paragraph-based.

Thinking further about the layout for this article, [is there any way] / [would it be appropriate] to provide more space between the book entries? It would be an easy matter to add an extra blank line before each title, and/or underline the titles, but I'm not sure that either is approved layout.

[edit] Speedy deletions on Thomas the Tank Engine articles

None of the articles you've tagged qualify for speedy deletion, and so I've removed them. In their place, I've added {{subst:mergeto|People and animals (Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends)}}. If you see any more articles, I suggest you do the same. Thanks! -- Merope Talk 20:12, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Railway Series books images

The images look nice. I guess it is better to have all of the books on one page rather than having them seperately, instead of cluttering up the main space. Also, a lot of images on the list of railway characters did not have copyright tags. I recently added tags to some that didn't have these, however, I think we should find some better images to add to the articles (ones with the 4:3 or 16:9 ratio) to make them look like they came from the TV. With that said, I am glad to be back, and you will definitely find me contributing on a regular basis. --Imdanumber1 ( Talk | contribs) 18:00, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thomas TV Character Pages

Hi. Thanks for removing all that superfluous 'colour' information, etc. I had considered doing so myself, but didn't have time yesterday, and I suspected you might in due course anyway... "Great minds think alike" :o)

Had you planned to do the same on Rolling stock (Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends)? The same issues exist there.

Cheers -- EdJogg 08:05, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What makes a hero?

Hiya.

Noticed you'd removed Duck from Category:Fictional heroes. (Not a problem, I didn't add that cat.!) Had you noticed that Percy and Thomas are also listed?

This set me wondering. What classifies a character as a hero? If it is a case of Hero vs Villain, then virtually all of the engines qualify as 'heroes'. Alternatively, if the character has performed some 'superhuman feat' (is that possible for a steam engine? :o) ), maybe that is qualification enough. In which case, we must list Duck (preventing runaway trucks crashing, ends up in barber's shop), Edward (catches James when he runs driverless down line), Henry ("Super Rescue"), Duke (when he prevents Falcon/Stuart from crashing down an embankment), Rheneas and Edward (continuing after major motion failure), Lord Harry (rescuing injured mountaineer on Culdee Fell), etc, etc. These are just some examples from memory -- I'm sure there are many more.

Writing this has made me realise that The Railway Stories article makes no (apparent) mention of the moral tone of the books, yet these examples clearly show the characters going 'beyond the call of duty', and might be appropriate to highlight in such a section. (I'm not the person to write it, neither, as I've always been hopeless at literary character analysis!)

Any thoughts?

EdJogg 12:52, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

My thought on this is that, while the stories (both TV and books) are packed full of protagonsists, and the occasional antagonsit, to place characters in the high position of "hero/heroine" is a sweeping statement, which isn't entirely accurate. Indeed, the engines are by and large represented as being "only human" (not the best phrase, but the meaning is clear), having occasional acts of bravery, but at the same time not being "above" the other engines because of this.
The only exception is Duke, who is specifically referred to (in the TV Series) as a hero.
I'm not arguing that the characters have not made acts of heroism, but it is far from the most correct term to use for the characters.
