Hiromu Arakawa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hiromu Arakawa (荒川弘, Arakawa Hiromu, was born May 8, 1973) is a Japanese manga artist. Born in Hokkaido, Japan, and raised on a dairy farm, Arakawa learned a work ethic that would inspire the idea of "Equivalent Exchange" in her renowned manga Fullmetal Alchemist. Although Arakawa has no publicly released photographs, she usually draws herself as a rather humorous, bespectacled cow in her manga.
Arakawa's career started with a work titled STRAY DOG, but she is best known for creating the Fullmetal Alchemist world and manga. During the making of the anime she was present in many meetings to give the BONES staff insight in the world of Fullmetal Alchemist.
Arakawa enjoys the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movie series. She thinks Darth Vader is the most evil villain of all time, and thinks Sean Connery is the greatest old man.

[edit] Trivia
- Hokkaido is Japan's predominant agricultural area. It is best known for dairy products, which is probably why Arakawa draws herself as a cow (she also stated once that she gave herself the cow appearance since she grew up at a dairy farm). She also repeatedly refers herself as a country hick.
- Her real name is Hiromi Arakawa (荒川弘美, Arakawa Hiromi)
[edit] Quotes
- I love B movies. I love the way they make me think 'What the Hell is this?! That's crazy!' yet still draw me in so that I watch the whole thing. I really like that feeling, and I like to bring a little of that kind of over-the-top flavor to my own manga. (Hiromu Arakawa, 2002)
