HMS Europa, a ship of the Royal Navy, is named after the Greek mythological character Europa.
In 1939 the Royal Naval reserves were dispatched to 'Sparrows Nest' in Lowestoft which, became the Central Depot for the Royal Naval Patrol Service then named 'Pembroke X'. Responsible for about 5,500 ships and around 70,000 men, the RNPS was mainly involved with minesweepig and anti-submerine work. Not long into the Second World War, 'Pembroke X' was renamed 'HMS Europa' and this title remained until decommissioned in 1946.
