[edit] Team Aqua

In the Pokémon world, Team Aqua is a group of thieves/peacemakers in the Hoenn Region. They specialise in the field of water Pokémon and maybe dark (in the Pokémon game, they mostly use Poochyena and Carvanha).

Team Aqua are based in a giant nuclear submarine out at sea, with a helicopter for land-to-sea travel. The team members all wear striped black and white shirts with jeans. Their do-rags bear a white skull-and-crossbone in the shape of the letter "A". Unlike Team Magma, Team Aqua is run by a ruthless Commander. Shelly (Izumi in the Japanese version) is referred to as Team Aqua Leader, though the actual leader is Archie (Aogiri in the Japanese version).

Team Aqua are likened to a band of pirates and are experts in the field of Oceanography as well as water Pokémon. They only exist in the Hoenn region and do not recognize Team Rocket, unlike Team Magma. Team Aqua are the bitter antagonists of Team Magma and are currently in a brief war with each other. Team Aqua's main goal is to flood the world as a giant ocean for their water Pokémon, believing that by doing this they will be making the world a better place. To that end, they will awaken Kyogre from its slumber.

Team Aqua is slightly less vicious than Team Magma (and vice versa in the manga), and has more females in its group. The Team Aqua Commander is a female herself, and their main thoughts about Ash Ketchum are not made clear, though she and the Team Magma Commander (who seemed to have a relationship of sorts with her once) do see him as a pest. Team Aqua is well-known in the Hoenn Region, and they often blackmail local fishermen into telling lies. It has been verified that neither Team Aqua nor Team Magma will be appearing in any future Pokémon episodes or Pokémon games.

[edit] Team Aqua Leader Archie

Archie is a cunting faggot who fucks fatties for a dollar fifty.

His Pokémon are Mightyena, Crobat, Sharpedo and Walrein. In the anime he is a ruthless villain who was once a friend of Maxie. But as his skills in Pokémon grew, so did his greed. He organized Team Aqua, an evil water Pokémon organization, to battle Team Magma for world control. In episode 806 (The Scuffle of Legends), Archie had absorbed the red orb into his body, gaining the power to control Kyogre, but the orb was expelled from his body later in the episode because Archie's body couldn't take the power strain of the orb. Archie commented later that he had no memory of the event. In the games he is a misguided individual who believes he is doing the right thing.

[edit] In the games

Depending on which game is played, Team Aqua is either on the side of the protagonist or the main group of antagonists. In Ruby, Team Aqua attempts to stop Team Magma from fulfilling their plan, but in the Sapphire and Emerald, they seek to awaken the Pokémon Kyogre, and use its powers to create tidal waves and rainstorms, and thus expand the sea mass.

In Sapphire, Team Aqua tries to steal important papers from Devon, the player, and Captain Stern in sucsession, but are foiled. Later, they steal a Meteorite and attempt to use it to calm an active volcano, Mt. Chimney. Their plan is foiled by the player. Then, they attack the Weather Institute to obtain the Castform there, again being foiled by the player. Archie travels to Mt. Pyre and steals the Red Orb which supposedly can control Kyogre. Team Aqua then steals a submarine and uses it to dive to the Underwater Cave where Kyorge sleeps. When the Red Orb acts of its own accord, Kyogre flees, and the Team Magma leader Maxie shows Archie a world suffering from intense rainstorms, more intense then Archie intended. Using the Blue Orb, players then travel to Sootopolis City and battle Kyogre, either defeating it or catching it. Afterwards, Archie returns the Red Orb to Mt. Pyre, and is never seen again.

In Emerald, both teams are against the player as well as each other, so the plot changes subtly. Team Aqua tries to obtain the Devon papers as in Sapphire. They later appear at Mount Chimney trying to stop Team Magma, who they believe are trying to erupt it. They later attack the Weather Institute to capture a Pokémon that can control the weather (this Pokémon is Castform). They are foiled again. Upon their defeat at the institute, they receive word that Team Magma is at Mt. Pyre, and go there themselves to steal the Red Orb. As in Sapphire, they travel to the Underwater Cave and awaken Kyogre, who then travels to Sootopolis. This is the second part of a two-part quest to awaken both Kyogre and Groudon. As the two fight both Maxie and Archie watch in horror, and both are confused as to why they cannot use their respective Orbs to control their respective Pokémon. After Rayquaza calms the two, Maxie and Archie return the Orbs to Mt. Pyre, and neither is ever seen again.

[edit] In the Animé

Team Aqua appears in Pokémon Advanced Battle where they try to take over the world. A member of Team Aqua tricked Team Magma into letting Kyogre into the sea, which they then used to destroy the island the crew were on. Archie used the Red Orb to control Kyogre, and commanded it to destroy the island, but once again, the crew managed to save the world. When Ash's Pikachu bonded with the blue orb, Groudon attacked Kyogre, but at the end, Ash had to defeat it himself.

[edit] Team Aqua Bosses

  • Aqua Leader Archie- He is the leader of Team Aqua and has attempted to use Kyogre to destroy the world before. He organized Team Aqua, an evil water Pokémon organization, to battle Team Magma for world control.
  • Aqua Admin Shelly- She is the second in command of Team Aqua and owns a Carvanha and fights the character at times in the game, a Crawdaunt, and a Walrein.
  • Aqua Admin Matt- Apparently Archies third in command because he and Shelly (see above) are the only Admins. He is faced first at Mount.Chimney and later at the Aqua hideout, Matt is only fought once in Emerald, at the Aqua Base.
  • Aqua Commander Robert- He is the male commander of Team Aqua and there isn't much known about him, other than that the character fights him at the Aqua Hideout.
  • S.S.S Trio Sean- He gets his Aqua Pokémon to create secret hideouts by his Carvanha's Secret Power.
  • S.S.S Trio Matts- He is the brutal force of the trio.

[edit] Team Magma

Two members of Team Magma

In the Pokémon world, Team Magma are a group of thieves/peacemakers in the Hoenn Region. They are a group of experts in the fields of geology and plate tectonics. Like Team Rocket, some rebels are Pokémon thieves, but Team Magma specializes in the field of Fire Pokémon.

The Group all wear dark-red uniforms with a black stylized "M" made of either mountains or volcanoes on their shirts. The head of Team Magma is Maxie (Matsuba in the Japanese version), but his second in command is The Commander, named Tabitha (Homura in the Japanese version). An other notable member of Team Magma is Brody (Bannai in the Japanese version), who owns a Ditto and is able to dress up like anyone he wants. Team Magma often use equipment that is normally used for experiments with high temperatures. They have no vehicles except the Commander's helicopter.

Team Magma are bitter rivals of Team Aqua. Though Team Magma does not exist outside the Hoenn region, they do know the work of Team Rocket, who have no Hoenn branch. Team Magma's main purpose is to expand the land mass, believing that by creating more room for life on land that they will be making the world a better place. To that end, they'll awaken Groudon from its slumber.

Team Magma frequently make appearances in Pokémon Advanced, and are seen merely as "big brothers" rather than a proper archrival. They eventually disappear after a battle between Groudon and Kyogre. It has been verified that neither Team Aqua nor Team Magma will be appearing in any future Pokémon episodes. Brody, however, makes one final appearance after the disappearance of Team Magma.

[edit] Team Magma Leader Maxie

Maxie is the Leader of Team Magma. His Pokémon are Mightyena, Camerupt, and Crobat. In both the games and anime, he is a good man who wants to make life better for everyone, which is why he organized Team Magma. Unfortunately (in the anime), Tabitha, Maxie's evil sidekick, committed crimes behind his boss's back, and lied to him about borrowing the arsenals they needed.

Maxie met Ash in Gaining Groudon, and told him of his dreams. He also told Ash about the Blue Orb, which could control Groudon, and with it in his hands, he could make life better for Hoenn. Suddenly, Tabitha tried to steal it, but Pikachu stopped him, but got possesed by the Blue Orb in the process. It controlled Groudon, and a cataclysmic battle began. Maxie helped Ash and friends escape Team Aqua's submarine, and also defeated Tabitha.

After the battle, Maxie thanked Ash, and realized that the land of Hoenn was perfect the way it was, and led Team Magma away. He has not been seen since then.

[edit] In the games

In the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Pokémon Emerald games, Team Magma is either good or evil. In Sapphire, Team Magma is good-natured, while in Ruby and Emerald, they are evil. In the latter 2 games, they seek to awaken the Pokémon Groudon, and use its powers to dry up the oceans and thus expand the land mass.

In Ruby, Team Magma tries to steal important papers in Petalburg Woods, Rustburo, and Slateport. Some time afterwards Team Magma steals a Meteorite and attempts to use it to activate a dormant volcano, Mt. Chimney. Their plan is foiled by the player. Team Magma then attacks the Weather Institute in an attempt to obtain the Castform there. Maxie travels to Mt. Pyre and steals the Blue Orb which supposedly can control Groudon. Team Magma then steals a submarine and uses it to dive to the Underwater Cave where Groudon sleeps. When the Blue Orb acts of its own accord, Groudon flees, and the Team Aqua leader Archie shows Maxie a world suffering from intense sunlight, more intense then Maxie intended. The player then travels to Sootopolis City and uses the Red Orb to awaken and subsequently battle Groudon, either defeating it or catching it. Afterwards, Maxie returns the Blue Orb to Mt. Pyre, and apologizes for his actions. With that, he leaves Mt. Pyre and is never seen again.

In Emerald, both Teams are evil, so the plot changes subtly. While in Ruby Team Magma's base is in Lilycove City, in Emerald it is hidden inside Mt. Chimney. Maxie, while expanding the Magma Hideout, is reputed to have discovered something powerful. Instead of trying to make the volcano erupt with the meteorite, they are trying to use it to awaken Groudon, who is inside (though Team Aqua and the player do not know any of this). They do not attack the Weather Institute, instead getting a head start on stealing the Blue orb (they don't bother with the Red orb, and one grunt loses his Magma symbol on the mountaintop). As in Ruby, Maxie steals the Blue Orb, and goes to the middle of the Magma Hideout, where Groudon is found. Groudon flees, and this ends the first part of a two-part quest to awaken both Groudon and Kyogre. The Team then attacks Mossdeep City and the Space Center, planning to steal the rocket fuel and use it to make the volcano erupt, since with Groudon gone it serves no further use to them. The plan is foiled. These events all take place before Team Aqua awakens Kyogre. As the two fight both Maxie and Archie watch in horror, and both are confused as to why they cannot use their respective Orbs to control their respective Pokémon. After Rayquaza calms the two, Maxie and Archie return the Orbs to Mt. Pyre, and neither is ever seen again.
