In chemical nomenclature, the prefix hydroxy indicates the presence of a hydroxyl functional group (-OH).
Such groups are found in alcohols, phenols, carboxylic acids, and as ligands in inorganic compounds.
Hydroxy can also refer to the medication Hydroxyzine, which is commonly sold under the brand names Atarax, Ucerax, Serecid and Vistaril.
