IceDove
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
IceDove is an e-mail client based on and closely related to Mozilla Thunderbird.
The IceDove program was created by the Debian Project after a dispute with the Mozilla Foundation over the use of trademarked logos and graphics in Thunderbird (and their Firefox program). The Debian Free Software Guidelines did not allow for the use of these images on the Debian operating system, but Mozilla argued that using the Firefox and Thunderbird names without their logos was a trademark violation.
In response, Debian has renamed its versions of Thunderbird and Firefox to IceDove and IceWeasel respectively (rather confusingly, there is an already existing IceWeasel program that was created for similar reasons). Aside from the name changes and the use of non-trademarked artwork, the differences between IceDove/IceWeasel and Thunderbird/Firefox are very minor. The use of IceDove and IceWeasel will most likely be limited to Debian and other Debian-based Linux distributions such as Knoppix and Ubuntu.
