The Invasion of Naboo, also referred to as the Battle(s) of Naboo, refers to a minor war (that broke out a decade prior to the Clone Wars) in the fictional Star Wars universe that occurred on the peaceful planet Naboo shortly after the Invasion of Theed (Naboo's capital city). During the siege, the greedy organization called the Trade Federation sent an army of battle droids to take over the city and take the planet's queen, Padmé Amidala, hostage. Fortunately, she was aided by two Jedi warriors, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn who helped her escape in order to seek help from the Galactic Senate on the planet Coruscant and thus stop the Trade Federation. Unfortunately the Senate's decision took too long and was only extended even longer when the Senate was busy preparing for a new Chancellor of the Republic to be elected.
The actual battle took place between forces of the Trade Federation that had forcibly occupied Naboo and the Queen Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and the Gungan army.
The battle itself began with the massing of the Gungan Grand Army in the plain fields not too far away from the city of Theed. The Trade Federation considered the Gungans a weak force that should be wiped out quickly, but it gave the Queen, returning from Coruscant, an opportunity to distract most of the droids in central Theed and recapture her own besieged palace. Because of the Senate's delay, she would have to take matters into her own hands.
The Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray and his advisors asked permission from Darth Sidious to begin deploying their forces and occupy Naboo until the trade dispute was resolved in their favor. Sidious gave Gunray his permission, clearly guiding the attack from behind the scenes when in fact he was secretly the same man who was up for the office of Chancellor of the Republic and so Sidious was in fact manipulating both sides.
The Gungan Grand Army made up of the humanoid Gungan species, joined with the human inhabitants of Naboo such as Theed security forces and fighter pilots in order to become more powerful. The Gungans, the Naboo exiles, and the members of the Naboo resistance soon assembled in the plains with their leaders to plan the attack. The Gungan Grand Army was sent to distract the droid armies in the fields. Simultaneously, the Queen and her small security forces infiltrated Theed with the purpose of retaking the city and capturing Nute Gunray in order to force a settlement in Naboo's favor and stopping Gunray and his corrupt Trade Federation.
Another force of Naboo starfighters was sent to destroy the Trade Federation's Droid Control Ship Profiteer orbiting the planet in order to disrupt (and if possible, wipe out) the commanding system of the droid armies who were controlled inside the giant battleship.
The battle back on the planet's surface was victorious for the people of Naboo. However, a mysterious warrior who seemed to be on neither the side of Naboo nor on the Trade Federation's side and who was believed to be named Darth Maul struck a fatal blow to Qui-Gon Jinn, and was in turn killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Profiteer was destroyed with all of its crew, thanks mostly to the Force-guided efforts of Anakin Skywalker. Despite four trials in the Supreme Court charged with his invasion, Gunray still retained his title as Viceroy of the Trade Federation.
The battle took place in 32 BBY and is depicted in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and ended with the deactivation of the Trade Federation's droid army and expulsion from Naboo to face the judgment of the Galactic Republic Senate on Coruscant.

[edit] Events
The Battle of Naboo was in fact the general title of a series a smaller battles and events. Here is the quick list of the activities which made up the Battle of Naboo:
- Siege of Theed - Trade Federation forces landing in the vast woodland swamps of Naboo emerged from the forests (that held Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn) into Theed with troops of battle droids and army tanks (AATs). The city was captured, but Queen Amidala and her protectors escaped aboard her ship. Theed's governor Sio Bibble was left in captivity of the Trade Federation.
- Rebellion on Theed - During their Queen's absence (and supposed death), Naboo freedom fighters revolted against the intruding Trade Federation, whose Viceroy had settled in quite nicely to the Royal Palace. The initial rebellion failed; however, droid forces occupying the swamps were driven out temporarily.
- Swamp Invasion - the Trade Federation Droid Army prepared to attack the underwater Gungan cities (possibly using their waterproof droidekas.) They were diverted, however, when they received news of another rebellion breaking out in the swamps, which was in fact the queen and her personal guards making their way to the Palace.
- Alliance with the Gungans - When the Queen returned from Coruscant, realising she had to take matters into her own hands, she landed her ship in the Naboo swamps and, with the help of the Gungan Jar Jar Binks, made an alliance with the Gungans, whose relations with the humans were historically uneasy [1]; She was able to persuade them to help fight off the Trade Federation on the basis that the entire planet would be taken for whatever resources could be had, and their underwater cities would eventually be captured too. Upon reaching this decision, the Gungans mustered up their primary military force, the Gungan Grand Army.
- Gungan Plains Battle - Gungan forces marched their army out onto an open hilly field, where Trade Federation MTTs were in the process of dispatching thousands of battle droids. Though using advanced shielding in contrast to the rest of the primitive Gungan technology, the droid army quickly broke through the single enormous deflector shield dome protecting them, resulting in countless Gungan casualties. After a brief but bloody clash, the Gungans were forced into submission.
- Palace Battle - The Gungan forces battling with the droids on the plains were, in fact, a diversion to draw droid forces away from the city. This gave the queen and her small party a chance to recapture their besieged palace. With the help of her decoy Sabé and head of security Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala reached the throne room and trapped the Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray, thus taking back the city.
- Naboo Space Battle - High above, Naboo starfighters initiated an assault on the droid ship Profiteer and child pilot Anakin Skywalker blasted the ship's reactor from the inside, causing a ship-destroying chain reaction; since apparently the droids were utterly dependent on the control ship to even remain operational, this caused them to completely deactivate. Naboo won the battle by default, and they also won back their home.
- Battle Below the Palace - While Queen Amidala was on her way to the throne room, the Sith Lord's Apprentice, Darth Maul, appeared. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi faced off against Dath Maul in a lightsaber duel which took them into the depths of the palace and finally into the reactor room. During the course of this, Obi-Wan found himself trapped behind a security shield just outside the reactor, activated due to weapons sensors which detected their lightsabers; Qui-Gon, however continued to battle against the Sith Lord within the room. During the course of the melee, Darth Maul stabbed and killed the Jedi Master. Angered, Kenobi tried to defeat the powerful Sith, but was almost thrown down the central pit around the reactor core. After calming himself by calling on the Light Side of the Force while still clinging to the edge of the reactor shaft [2], he used Qui-Gon's lightsaber to cut Darth Maul in half, who subsequently fell down the pit.
- Peace on Naboo - the Gungan and human natives of Naboo afterward held an enormous parade to celebrate newfound peace between the two Naboo societies who were able to join forces and defeat the Trade Federation.
- Celebration of Naboo - Occurring after the Battle of Naboo and the loss of Qui-Gon Jinn. It was celebrated in the capital city of Theed. Participants included both the Naboo and Gungans, and others who fought in the battle. Senator Palpatine and a number of Jedi also attended the event. The Parade also marked the beginning of peace between the Naboo and the Gungans. This event was the last time that Padme Amidala was seen as the Queen of the Naboo people.
[edit] Other Info
During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems (including the Trade Federation) would once again unsuccessfully threaten Naboo, thus starting the Defense of Naboo, however Naboo is not mentioned at all in the original trilogy and during the era of Galactic Civil War.
