Isobel (framework)

Isobel is a configurable and customizable knowledge management framework. Isobel is fully functional out of the box, but it's meant mainly as a framework to build complex information retrieval and analysis systems.
Isobel offers ready to use services such as multi-protocol content fetching with fine grained scheduling, format conversion (pdf, doc, etc.), hyperlink graph storage and analysis, content storage and indexing, ontology services, XML configuration, logging and statistics.
On top of this services a pipeline plug-in model allows the programmer to easily extend the system with specific advanced functions.
Isobel is mainly developed in Java, and it supports GNU/Linux and windows OS. It is based on several well known open source projects, among these: Lucene, Compass, JUNG, Xerces and in version 1.0 is planned to leverage on the IBM UIMA architecture.
