[edit] About Me
Joined as a Wikipedian on 29 October 2006.
I am a Singaporean teenager who joined because his IP address was shared by some vandal, resulting in the author getting unpleasantly locked out from edit pages. As a member, I now have little to fear!
I'm a Christian (no denomination) and thus do not believe in the evolutionist theory. I'm also a die-hard Batman and Star Wars fan, with Justice League TV series reruns (and now Wikipedia editing) taking up my minimal free time (a phenomenon affecting most Singapore schoolboys).
As for other hobbies, I build and photograph Lego models (I own a pretty extensive collection, composed primarily of Lego Star Wars). Unlike most teenagers, I do not own any games consoles (X-Box, PlayStation, Gamecube and the like) so I get to play on them only on the rare visits to a friend's house. I love to write and entertain myself by doing so, writing movie reviews, Lego set reviews and fan-fiction in my spare time, besides editing on Wikipedia, of course. I also listen to the daily podcast The mrbrown show (for which I created the Wikipedia entry) as often as I can, just for fun. It's laugh-out-loud funny!
I also consider myself quite the movie buff, and have a long list of favourite films. I am generally inclined towards action-comedies, though I've probably seen at least one film from every genre. Horror is my least favourite.
[edit] List of Favourite Films
Here we go,
Action Comedies/ Thrillers
As mentioned earlier, Action Comedies rank as my favourite genre. Which teenage guy doesn't like to seeing things get blown up, or enjoys a farcial gag or two? The appeal is undeniable. Further more, I love special effects: physical or CGI, they're all interesting. I love to analyse particular scenes and stunts, and look out for mistakes or trivia points. I'm no nitpicker, but that's where the average teenager and I differ.
As for thrillers, you completely can't be laughing all the time. Everything's heavier in these films: mystery, plot, action etcetra. This makes them all the more intriguing.
One last note: some of these films can be mixed up in other genres too.
- Rush Hour 2 (great stunts, chock-full of laughs)
- Who Am I (Quite the Jackie Chan fan, eh?)
- The Recruit (Colin Farrell looking smart for once)
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Sean Connery! Harrison Ford! Steven Spielberg! George Lucas!)
- Tomb Raider (film) (believe me, it's not all about the padding...)
- Miss Congeniality (heck, that counts too)
- Mr and Mrs Smith (My absolute favourite Hollywood car chase is in it...ridiculous but so much fun!!!)
- The Rock (film) (I mentioned something about Sean Connery earlier, did I?)
- Air Force One (film) (If only real US presidents had Ford's foreign policies!)
- Casino Royale (2006 film) (The much-needed reboot to the franchise, all gritty edge!)
Sci Fi
In the realm of science fiction, anything's possible. I kind'a think this genre bonds all others. There are science fiction action and comedy films aplenty, almost all fantasy is also science fiction (and vice versa), a ton of weird sci-fi thrillers, a couple of horror films, heck, there are even some sci-fi romances (The Lake House)! My personal faves (inclusive of alien movies, depictions of the future, superhero movies, disaster films etc) are listed below:
- Star Wars (all of them, though my absolute favourite is Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi)
- Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Intense but incredible)
- Batman Begins (This started me on Batman, and I haven't turned back since!!!)
- Superman Returns ( sing to the title tune: Bam bam bam baaam babam! Need I say more?)
- Deep Impact (Touching, fab special effects and Morgan Freeman's in it!)
- Volcano (film) (Okay, it makes no scientific sense, but the effects were groundbreaking for the time)
- Dante's Peak (The more sensible of the two volcano films)
- The Lost World Jurassic Park (good stuff, especially those CGI dinosaurs)
- The Island (2005 film) (creepy but cool)
[edit] My Potential work on Wikipedia
Before registering, I mainly did work on DC comics-related articles, and am likely to continue doing so now. As mentioned earlier, I'm a Bat-fan (blame Batman Begins-it started it all). I love Lego as well (most Lego references on Batman-related pages were most likely added by me). I also like to add stuff to articles relating to whatever I come across, if I feel it necessary. For example, if I've just watched a television show or movie, or if I've just visited some museum, I may look it up here and see if I can contribute anything at all. Please forgive the British spelling, as it is the standard English Singapore mainly uses. Don't expect to see too much work done by myself, though, as this is a strictly-free time activity (did I mention my parents lock the computer with a password?) As a proper member, though, I'll try my best :)
Cheers,
Jedd the Jedi
