[edit] Remember to use edit summaries
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. -- Longhair 09:37, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Just getting the hang of things
Hi all
I am a 34 year old first time Mum, at home with a quiet little baby. This gives me time to be involved at Wikipedia now that I no longer work. In my pre-working life I undertook an Arts degree and am a Univeristy gradute in Australian History. absolute passions are the work of P. G. Wodehouse, and the music of Jeff Buckley. I know very little about Wikipedia as yet, but I am learning and very happy to take any advice or criticism you have. I've decided to start by tackling some of the To Do list stuff, with a focus on things I know a little about, e.g. literature and Australian topics. - ...and you're doing fine. Welcome aboard. It's always great to have another Aussie contributor around the place. -- Longhair 10:21, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
I feel much better now I have discovered the history and talk facilities - I would hate to barge in rudely and change other people's work (but I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to sentence structure).—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jen Powell-Psmith (talk • contribs) 19:55, 9 September 2006.
- See Be bold in updating pages. We actively encourage "barging in" if it actually improves the article :) -- Longhair 10:34, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

- Cheers and thanks for all your help. I'm having fun here. Helps keep my brain from wasting away - Jen
Welcome from me too, Jen. Great to have another Adelaidean on board. Perhaps you'd like to create a user page for yourself? Happy editing,--cj | talk 03:26, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks - do you know if it would be possible to change my usename to Jen Psmith? It's less of a mouthfull.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jen Powell-Psmith (talk • contribs) 17:04, 13 September 2006.

- Sure. You can pester a bureaucrat to change it at Wikipedia:Changing username. Alternatively, you could simply disguise it by customising your signature.--cj | talk 08:02, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Excellent!Excellent!Excellent! Many thanks. JP Psmith 08:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] SA Architecture
You asked at Talk:Australian architectural styles - Could an example of South Australian architecture be included in picture? - feel free to edit and include an appropriate picture :-)--Golden Wattle talk 09:37, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your username
Jen, I noticed your presence on Adelaide-oriented pages. I'm also from Adelaide. I also started out on Wikipedia using my real name as user name. I notice you're already having second thoughts about your user name and changing your signature, etc to disguise it. If you think you might want to be more anonymous in the future, I strongly suggest disusing this account and starting a new, pseudonymous one. On the other hand, if your changes to your signature are just to simplify your username, not hide your real name, and you're completely happy to have your real name attached to everything you do on Wikipedia then just ignore this message. — Donama 06:45, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
I really appreciate your advice. I'm not too worried, but will have to give it some thought. JP Psmith 10:00, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
