John Brunious Jr. (born October 12, 1940) is a jazz trumpeter and the current bandleader for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
John Brunious is the son of John Brunious Sr who was a jazz musician in his own right and also his teacher. Brunious's intial inspirations were Dizzy Gillespie and Maynard Ferguson, but he had a continued interest in older styles of jazz. He has been a member of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band since the 1980s.[1]
The events of Hurricane Katrina caused him to lose many of his possessions. He also spent several days at a convention center before temporarily relocating to Arkansas to be treated for dehydration. He has since recovered.[2]
