John Randolph Tucker High School is a high school in Henrico County, Virginia, United States. It is named after Congressman John Randolph Tucker. J. R. Tucker's mascot is the tiger, and its students and faculty are often referred to simply as "Tucker Tigers." It was established in 1962, and is one of the oldest high schools in the county. Its sister school, Henrico High School is similiarly designed. J.R Tucker is the only school in the county that allows its students to eat lunch outside, made possible by its campus style. In 2005, Tucker had exactly 1580 students and over 145 faculty members. In the 2006-7 school year, it has about 550 freshmen and 353 seniors. The school colors are orange and blue.

[edit] Immersion Center
J.R. Tucker is the home of the Henrico County Immersion Center. The Immersion program offers students a unique opportunity to be immersed in a foreign language for the duration of their high school years. Students gain a respect for diversity of languages, backgrounds and values. Insight into the structure of the English language is expanded. Students also acquire an understanding of the close connection between language and thought and the nature of language. They develop creative expressions and logical thinking and are able to communicate and exchange ideas and information. Further, students are empowered with the sense of an international community.
The Foreign Language Immersion Center was founded in 1993-94 at J. R. Tucker High School as the first Specialty Center for Henrico County Public Schools. We are proud to continue this tradition into our second decade. We offer high school students an opportunity to prepare themselves to thrive in a society that is rapidly becoming global in nature. By taking advantage of the opportunities we provide, students can develop a very high level of proficiency in either French or in Spanish, both of which are languages of major importance in the world today. The course sequence starts in the ninth grade, and participants normally have already had one year of study in the language they choose to pursue. Exceptions can be made for highly motivated and talented students.[1]

J.R. Tucker has two main rivals in the Henrico County area. Before, J.R. Tucker's rival was Hermitage High School. Now, J.R. Tucker is also rivals with Deep Run High School because when it opened, much of the student body had been in the Deep Run district.
[edit] Sports and Organizations
J.R. Tucker has a variety of sports for the student all year round. The year is divided into three different seasons (Fall, Winter, and Spring) with each having their own distinct sports.
- Fall: Boys and Girls Cross Country, Girls Field Hockey, Football, Volleyball, and Golf.
- Winter: Basketball, Indoor Track and Field, Gymnastics, and Wrestling.
- Spring: Outdoor Track and Field, Boys Baseball, Girls Softball, Boys and Girls Soccer, and Boys and Girls Tennis.
Other organizations include J.R. Tucker Cheerleading and the J.R. Tucker Dance Team.
[edit] Cheerleading
On October 20, 2006 J.R. Tucker became the Colonial District cheering champions for the fourth year in a row. This was followed up by becoming the Central Region champions on October 27, 2006.
Their constant winning streak has been stated as a "dynasty", with a diamond-shaped hand gesture symbol to accompany it. The "four-peat" winnings have been attributed to the fact that "diamonds are forever."
November 11 J.R. Tucker Cheerleaders took the second place in the state championship having lost to the first place, Stonebridge High School, by only one point (266 points vs. 265).

J.R. Tucker's Cross Country Team won state, regional and district titles in years 2005, 2004 and 2003. It featured such runners as Michael Chapa, Mason McElroy, Thum Mithuang, Tanner Seese, and Jay Wyss.
