Juan Uribe is a Major League Baseball player who was born on (July 22, 1979). He is the starting shortstop for the Chicago White Sox.
Uribe was traded to the White Sox by the Colorado Rockies on December 2, 2003 for Aaron Miles. He was acquired by the White Sox to back up Willie Harris as the second baseman, but eventually replaced José Valentín at shortstop and has been the starting shortstop since.
Uribe made two memorable defensive plays for the final two outs of the 2005 World Series, first catching a ball while crashing into the stands and then making a throw on a slow grounder to beat Astro Orlando Palmeiro to give the White Sox their first title in 88 years.
On October 16, 2006 it was reported that Dominican authorities were seeking Uribe after issuing an arrest warrant for his connection with the shooting of two men.
According to authorities Uribe and his brother are suspects in the shooting and wounding a Dominican farmer and a captain in the Italian Navy when the pair walked too close to Uribe’s jeep.
