Kiln, Mississippi

Kiln is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 2,040 at the 2000 census. Today, it is best known as the hometown of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

Kiln is located at 30°24′46″N, 89°26′8″W (30.412874, -89.435417)^GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 34.9 km² (13.5 mi²). 34.5 km² (13.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.97%) is water.

As of the census^GR2 of 2000, there were 2,040 people, 782 households, and 570 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 59.1/km² (153.1/mi²). There were 987 housing units at an average density of 28.6/km² (74.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.98% White, 2.60% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.10% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.52% of the population.

There were 782 households out of which 34.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $38,125, and the median income for a family was $40,893. Males had a median income of $32,768 versus $21,850 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $16,351. 21.1% of the population and 19.5% of families were below the poverty line. 24.2% of those under the age of 18 and 11.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
