King's Indian, Sämisch, 5...O-O

In chess, E81 is the ECO code for the King's Indian, Sämisch, 5...O-O chess opening. The game begins 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.e4 d6 5.f3 0-0. The diagrammed position can be found in ECO codes E81-E88 and can transpose easily to the A65 Benoni. E81 excludes all 6.Be3 responses except the Byrne variation: 6.Be3 c6 7.Bd3 a6. The opening has its roots in the 1890s but Friedrich Sämisch developed it into a working system in the 1920s. White has created a wide front and can fashion an attack behind the pawns. Black has time to push pawns to the center too, close down the attack and even create counterchances on the queenside. It is enjoying an all-time popularity at the present.
