Kinnelon, New Jersey

Kinnelon is a Borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 9,365. It is a low density, suburban community, with many woods and trails. Its park is Silas Condict Park, and its largest lake is Lake Kinnelon, which is within Smoke Rise, a private gated community. The Fayson Lakes area of Kinnelon was developed as a vacation resort.

Kinnelon is located at GR1.
(40.991069, -74.372051)According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 48.7 km² (18.8 mi²). 46.3 km² (17.9 mi²) of it is land and 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²) of it (4.94%) is water.
Tripod Rock is located in Kinnelon's Pyramid Mountain Natural Historical Area. New York City is 30 miles from Kinnelon and there are various historic sites in Morristown, New Jersey which is 30 minutes south of Kinnelon. Accommodations will be found at various hotels in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey which is within 20 minutes of Kinnelon.
The school mascot is the Kinnelon Colt.
Rapper Missy Elliott owns a house in the estates of Kinnelon.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 9,365 people, 3,062 households, and 2,685 families residing in the borough. The population density was 202.1/km² (523.5/mi²). There were 3,123 housing units at an average density of 67.4/km² (174.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 95.60% White, 0.58% African American, 0.04% Native American, 2.84% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.33% of the population.
There were 3,062 households out of which 45.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 80.6% were married couples living together, 5.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 12.3% were non-families. 9.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size was 3.27.
In the borough the population was spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.9 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $105,991, and the median income for a family was $110,593. Males had a median income of $79,870 versus $45,069 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $45,796. About 2.3% of families and 2.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.9% of those under age 18 and 0.6% of those age 65 or over.

Kinnelon Borough is governed under the Borough form of municipal government. A Mayor is elected directly by the voters. The Borough Council consists of six members elected to serve three-year terms on a staggered basis, with two seats coming up for election each year.
The Mayor of Kinnelon is Glenn L. Sisco. Members of the Borough Council are Council President Lawrence Casha, Stephen Cobell, Robert Collins, James Freda, Eric Nederfield and Dan O'Dougherty[1].

Kinnelon Borough is in the Eleventh Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 26th Legislative District[2].
New Jersey's Eleventh Congressional District, covering western portions of Essex County, all of Morris County, and sections of Passaic County, Somerset County and Sussex County, is represented by Rodney Frelinghuysen (R, Harding Township). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Robert Menendez (D, Hoboken).
The 26th legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Robert Martin (R, Morris Plains) and in the Assembly by Alex DeCroce (R, Morris Plains) and Joseph Pennacchio (R, Morris Plains). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).
Morris County is governed by a seven-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. Morris County's Freeholders are: Margaret Nordstrom (Freeholder Director), John Inglesino (Freeholder Deputy Director), Douglas R. Cabana, Frank J. Druetzler, Cecilia G. Laureys John J. Murphy and Jack Schrier.

The Kinnelon Public Schools is composed of approximately 2,200 students in grades K-12. Kiel School serves grades PreK-2. Stonybrook School is an upper elementary school that serves students in grades 3-5; Pearl R. Miller Middle School serves students in grades 6-8; and Kinnelon High School is a comprehensive high school for grades 9-12.
