[edit] History
Kish's race originally lived on Earth, but it became uninhabitable so they moved to another planet. This planet was even worse; the aliens were forced to live underground for thousands of years. They finally came back to Earth, only to find that it had been taken over by humans.
Kish came to Tokyo to operate his plan of taking over Earth to save his dying race. The only thing that stands in his way are the five Mew Mews. Kish first meets Ichigo in a park. Attracted by her kitten-like cuteness, he leaped off the roof of a building and surprised her with a kiss on the lips (and it hasn't been the last). At first, Kish sees her as a toy he could hug and kiss but later fell in love with her, despite her constant rejections and her obvious love and loyalty toward her Masaya Aoyama. The alien enemy has tried various times to make her "his", including trying to kill her boyfriend, Masaya Aoyama (Mark in Mew Mew Power). Near the end of the anime, Kish threatens to murder Ichigo if she doesn't become his.
Later, when Masaya turns out to be Deep Blue, Kish assists Ichigo in the fight against him. However, Deep Blue stabs him, and Kish dies, but Ichigo manages to defeat Deep Blue. Kish is revived at the end of the battle.
When the three aliens are about to go back home, Kish says he'd finally gotten over Ichigo. In Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode, Kish makes a small appearance when he sneezes on his planet after Mint mentions him on Earth (in Japan, it is believed that if you sneeze, it means someone is talking about you).
In the manga, he confesses his love to Ichigo, asking "What can I do to make you love me?" But in the end, he realizes that Ichigo loves Masaya, and finally accepts it. He ends up returning to his planet with Pie and Tart and openly accepting that he and Ichigo were never meant to be.
[edit] Appearance
Kish has pale skin with amber eyes and forest green hair styled in two pigtails on the side of his face that drape over his ears. He appears to be in his early teens. He has a distinctive pair of big, pointy, elf-like ears. He wears a baggy shirt that shows his belly and baggy shorts that go down to about his knees, and his fore arms and shins are wrapped in dark red bandages. He has fangs that show whenever he opens his mouth. His two companions include Pie and Tart (Sardon and Tarb in Mew Mew Power).
[edit] Personality
Kish cares a lot about the people on the planet and is very passionate, but he starts to love Ichigo toward the end of the manga. Many people believe he is obsessive, but this is not correct when reffering to his Manga self, especially since he gives her up in the end. Overall, he is quite loving and caring, but sometimes quite forceful.
In the anime however, Kish turns out to be a slightly more violent and driven individual. Though he remains preoccupied about things concerning his goals, and displays moments of caring, he is very obsessive over things he wants and cannot have immediately (i.e. Ichigo, for one thing). He enjoys wreaking havoc upon humans and those who oppose him, yet not quite to a sadistic extreme, perhaps because he is always stopped before he goes too far. He will fight anyone opposing him to the end, even when his enemy is unable to continue. This may also mean he is practical. Anime Kish is rash at times, but he is militarily intelligent when it comes to devicing plans, not quite as structured as Pie's, but all the same valuable assets when it comes to fighting the Mew Mews. Kish also likes to be in the lead, accepting the position of subordinate only in special circumstances (and yet he still occasionally defies Deep Blue in speech and actions). His resistance also lies in some mistrust for his 'chief' (as Deep Blue never shows himself), and though this suspicion was dismissed as egotism by his comrades for the greater part of the Anime, the alien's suspicions proved true when Deep Blue turned out to be a destructive force that aimed to destroy the Earth (rather than helping Kish and his people reclaim it for themselves).
Both Anime and Manga Kish seem to have moments in which they appear dark and purely evil, but this appears to be only a reaction to trying circumstances.
[edit] Weapons and Abilities
Kish is one of the three aliens; Kish's main weapons are Dragon Swords, which he slashes at the Mew Mews. These swords resemble sais, but are not handled as such. He can also conjure up Kimera Anima (Chimera Animal in the Japanese manga and Singaporean manga, Kirema Anima and Chimera Anima in the U.S. manga, or Predasites in Mew Mew Power) and has the ability to fly and teleport.
[edit] Mew Mew Power
In the English dubbed anime, Dren's reason to take over Earth is different from the manga and original Japanese dub: The planet he lived on was not Earth and was a separate planet. It was becoming uninhabitable, so he, Tarb, Sardon, and Deep Blue attempted to take over Earth.
Dren also says more Mew Mew puns than he does in the original Japanese version. There are also several other alterations to him.
[edit] Voices
- In Tokyo Mew Mew, Kish is voiced by Daisuke Sakaguchi.
- In the dubbed version of Tokyo Mew Mew (known as Mew Mew Power), Kish is voiced by Andrew Rannells.
*Kish is the most popular male character. His fangirls rank in the millions.
