Lakewood Assembly

Lakewood Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory in Lakewood, Georgia. Opened in 1927, the factory produced trucks, the A-body cars, and the Chevrolet Chevette before it was closed in 1990. The Lakewood plant was the first plant that the UAW striked in the 1930s. In addition to the vehicles listed above, Lakewood built the Chevrolet and GMC pickup truck in the 1960s and 1970s. Production on these trucks discontinued in the early '80s. Lakewood also built the Chevrolet Chevelle in the 1960s and the Pontiac Grand Prix in the 1970s.
