Lansingville

Lansingville is a neighborhood in Youngstown, Ohio, on the city's south side. The area was named for John Lansing, and was a neighborhood dominated by Slovak Catholic immigrants throughout the 20th century.
The neighborhood grew rapidly as many Slovaks, who came to Youngstown to work in the steel mills, settled in the area during the late 1800s, and was incorporated into Youngstown during the 1880s. Although the vast majority of its inhabitants were Slovak, there were also German and Italian immigrants in the area.
Although this tradition is no longer intact, a custom of many Lansingville residents was to sweep their sidewalks and streets once a week.
Today, Lansingville's population is ethnically diverse, although many Slovak-Americans still live there.
