Leafs TV is a Canadian category 2 digital cable regional television channel in the province of Ontario that presents programming about the Toronto Maple Leafs - games, classic games, pre/post-game shows and games featuring Leafs prospects from minor league teams such as the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies. It is owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd.. Due to NHL broadcast rules, the channel is not available in the Ottawa Valley or outside of the Toronto Maple Leafs 'Home Market'. It launched in September 2001.
Leafs TV is in many respects similar to the YES Network in the United States, which is owned by the New York Yankees baseball team. Both networks are owned by the teams on which they focus. Leafs TV and YES are also both confined to the viewing regions immediately surrounding the home base of their team. They both also broadcast games of their teams' top minor league affiliates (the AHL's Toronto Marlies and the Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons of the International League).
[edit] Leafs TV HD
In November 2006, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. launched an HD simulcast of Leafs TV.
