Legacy Recordings is Sony BMG Music Entertainment's Award-winning catalog division. It was founded in 1990 by CBS Records (renamed Sony Music in 1991) to handle reissues of recordings from the vast catalogues of Columbia Records, Epic Records and associated labels. The division now handles the archives of Sony BMG's Columbia, Epic, RCA, J Records, Windham Hill, RCA Victor, Arista Records as well as Sony BMG Masterworks and Sony BMG Nashville. From jazz and blues to gospel and classical to classic rock, pop, R&B and soul, the Sony BMG Music labels have reigned among the most successful in the history of recorded music. Legacy's charter is to find new ways to reintroduce the company's master recordings to music fans and aficionados around the world.
Legacy releases feature up-to-the-moment, state-of-the-art sound and comprehensive packaging including notes, photos and detailed track information. The Legacy name was registered as the trademark in the United States since 1960 by former Columbia Records owner CBS.
