Lenswood (postcode 5240) is a town in the Adelaide Hills area of South Australia. It is located in the Adelaide Hills Council local government area.
Nestled in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, the small village of Lenswood is central to all the tourist traps in this semi-rural, tranquil corner of the Festival City. Lenswood is at the seat of the Onkaparinga Valley which offers the visitor some of the most stunning scenery in the Adelaide Hills. It is an area of rolling vineyards, blocks of apple and cherry orchards, lush farms and quaint towns. Food and wine are the staples of life round Lenswood; roadside vendors peddle apples and other produce, and there are several wine-tasting rooms in the area.

[edit] History
[edit] Kaurna Aborigines
The Kaurna people (pronounced "Garner" or "Gowna") people were the Indigenous inhabitants of the Adelaide region, numbering approximately 650 in 1842.
[edit] Origin of the name
Lenswood developed practically as an extension of Forest Range and in time became the major community, headed by the all-important Lenswood Co-operative Cold Store. When in 1917 the district's first post office opened, a name was sought. Lenswood was chosen - towards the end of World War I the French town of Lens was bruised and battered from years of battle; the name symbolised that horrific conflict, and remembered the many district men who served in the thick of it.
