[edit] Club
Before being signed by Sporting, Liédson played only in Brazil. In the 2004/05 season, he was the top scorer in the SuperLiga, scoring 25 goals. In the 2005/2006 season, Liédson finished 2nd in the SuperLiga scoring race, scoring 15 goals in 31 games (28 of which were completed) with an impressive mark of 2899 minutes played.
He is considered by many as the greatest striker in Sporting CP history since the early performances of Jorge Cadete and the club's top trademark since Luís Figo and Ricardo Sá Pinto.
Liédson is under contract with Sporting CP until June 2010.
[edit] National Team
Liédson has recently expressed interest in playing for the Portuguese National Team despite being Brazilian born. Liédson said, "If one day I was called up to play, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second as I feel right at home in Portugal". Although an opening may have opened up on Portugal's national team with the retirement of Pauleta, many would be surprised to see Liédson on the national team. With veterans such as Nuno Gomes and up-and comers in Ricardo Vaz-Té (who plays a similar style to Liédson) it may end up a long shot.
Liédson has never had the chance to play for the Brazilian National Team due to their deep talent at the striker position.
[edit] Trivia
- In his first season with Sporting, his jersey had the 'S' in his name horizontally flipped. This was due to an error, but Liédson himself accepted to keep it that way as a "trademark".
- He is known to Sporting fans as "Levezinho".
