Lightweight (MMA)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The lightweight division in mixed martial arts generally limits competitors to 155 or 160 lb (70 or 73 kg) – these are the weight limits as defined by the UFC and PRIDE Fighting Championships, respectively. The lightweight division sits between the lighter featherweight division, and the heavier welterweight division.
The UFC's lightweight division was reinstated at UFC 58 after falling into disuse following UFC 49. Sean Sherk, a former welterweight, defeated Kenny Florian at UFC 64, becoming the first UFC Lightweight Champion since 2002.
In Shooto, the 155 lb division is known as the welterweight division.
