This article lists political parties in Mauritania.
Mauritania is a state in transition. Formerly the nation was a one party dominant state with the Democratic and Social Republican Party, now the Republican Party for Democracy and Renewal in power. Opposition parties were allowed, but had no real chance of gaining power. Following the 2005 Coup the direction of party politics in Mauritania is unclear. Whilst the new Junta has liberalised the political arena, the shape of future Parliament's and the level of pluralistic politics remains to be seen.
