"Lover I Don't Have to Love" is a song by Bright Eyes. It was released as a single in 2002 and placed on the album Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground. The song, as played by Conor Oberst, has lyrics of questionable morality. It is a first person narrative, telling the listener of the narrator's night, presumably having sex with a stranger.
It was covered by Bettie Serveert on their 2004 album Attagirl, and this cover was played extensively during episode 18 of season 3 of FOX's The O.C.
