Luria Kayitz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Luria Kayitz is a fictional character in the Super Robot Wars series of games produced by Banpresto. Her first and only appearance is in Super Robot Wars Alpha 3: To the End of the Galaxy.
[edit] Appearance
Although her exact age is never stated, Luria appears to be in her mid twenties. She has silvery blonde hair and violet eyes which stand out against her dark olive complexion. Although her bangs show from underneath her crystal-endowed headdress, the rest is contained within an orange-colored wrapping that covers her neck and the sides and back of her head. Luria also wears an ornate piece of armor that covers her upper torso and shoulders, a red crest perhaps symbolizing her clan heritage.
[edit] Etymology
Like many other people and things of Balmarian origin, Luria's name has a basis in Hebrew. Luria is the surname of a long-standing rabbinical family in western Europe, and "kayitz" is the Hebrew word for "summer."
[edit] Personality and History
Luria was born into one of the twelve noble clans of Balmar, the Kayitz. From her complexion (as well as the custom tan and bronze coloration of her personal mecha, Shemuel) it can be assumed that the Kayitz traditionally inhabit an arid region of the Balmar homeworld. Her relatively young age suggests that she is something of a combat prodigy, earning the high position of Bodyguard over the current Priestess of Zfylud, Almana Tikvah. Together with her cohort, the irrepressable Baran Doban, they work tirelessly to protect her.
Luria shares a deep personal connection with Almana, almost viewing her more like a younger sister than a princess. This relationship is put to the test when Almana's uncommonly independent personality comes into conflict with Luria's duty. However, Luria's devotion to Almana and confidence in her own abilities cause her to support Armana's dangerous ventures. After Hazal Gozzo essentially imprisons Almana on his command ship, Luria agrees to assist in her escape via a small shuttle. The pair stows away aboard one of the flagships of the Alpha Numbers, watching as they desperately hold off attacks by the Golar Golem squad. After the SRX Altered Banpreios returns the Alpha Numbers to real space, Luria and Almana confront Hazal directly via Luria's Shemuel. During the fight, it is revealed that Luria grew up with Hazal, and viewed him as a friend. However, his pride and arrogance, combined with the negative influence of the systems aboard the Vaikral, have pushed him past the point of no return. Once this conflict comes to its conclusion, Luria returns to Balmar with Almana and Baran in order to try and circumvent the dangerous Shiva Gozzo.
While Baran makes the brash decision to confront Shiva personally, Luria must do her duty to protect Almana while she uses her considerable influence to gain an audience with the Spirit Emperor Ruach Ganeden in an attempt to convince him that the best way to face the looming threat of Apocalypsis is by the joining of forces between the Earthlings and Balmarians. Through the machinations of Son Gan Long, Baran is able to secure both the missing-in-action Aya Kobayashi and a stockpile of Tronium, and Luria accompanies him into orbit above the Balmar homeworld where the Alpha Numbers had amassed against the fleets of Sardis and Philadelphia Gozzo. Being granted access to the surface of Balmar, the Alpha Numbers try and make an ally of Ruach, but his mind is set in the ideal of a pure Balmar progenated through the protection of his Gepel Ganeden. To prove his point against those who may have ideas of siding with the humans, the "Children of Nashim," he sends down a bolt of energy at Almana. The audacious, but thankfully not fatal attack spurs Luria to reconsider her opinion of Ruach, a figure she held as a god. Just as with Hazal, Luria makes it clear that Almana is her top priority, and that she is willing to fight even a god to protect her.
Gepel Ganeden is defeated twice, eliminating both Ruach and Shiva, but Balmar itself is soon destroyed by a massive meteor shower. As Almana takes on the mantle of leader for the beleaguered Balmarians, treating Sardis and Philadelphia as her direct subordinates, Luria is officialy adopted into the ranks of the Aplha Numbers, remaining with them in their continued battle until the defeat of Keisar Ephes. After this she returns to Almana's side, supporting her through her trials to come.
