In episode 15, Masaru, Tohma and Yoshino were captured by MetalPhantomon, who put them under a nightmare spell to drain their souls. Tohma's nightmare was involving the day of his mother's death, despite that being his saddest memory, he managed to break free from the spell and awaken his Digisoul to evolve his partner Gaomon to MachGaogamon, who used his newfound powers to defeat MetalPhantomon.
