[edit] Plot
Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) is a struggling single mom who works at a posh Manhattan hotel and dreams of a better life for her and her young son (Tyler Posey). One fateful day, hotel guest and senatorial candidate Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes) meets Marisa and mistakes her for a wealthy socialite. After an enchanting evening together, the two fall madly in love. But when Marisa’s true identity is revealed, issues of class and social status threaten to separate them.
Tagline: This Christmas ... love checks in
The plot of the movie is superficially similar to Pretty Woman, in that Lopez's character is at the bottom and gets involved with someone at the top, which is exactly what happens to the characters played by Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, although Vivian never used any deception about her character, unlike Marisa.
[edit] Box office
Earning $18,711,407 in the U.S. opening weekend, the movie was #1 at the box office playing in 2,838 theaters and showed decent legs in the coming weeks. Though critics blasted the film, MIM finished with over 154 million worldwide, more than half of which, came from the United States. The movie grossed $93,932,896 and remains Lopez's highest grossing film.
