Massoud Rajavi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Massoud Rajavi is the leader of People's Mujahedin of Iran (MKO), a militant political organization (opposition group to the Islamic Republic of Iran) active outside of Iran.
Massoud Rajavi seems to be either dead or in hiding, since the American occupation of Iraq. Since that time, nobody has seen or heard from him, not even in the form of a video or audio tape addressing the members of the MKO.
The MKO set up a base on the Iran-Iraq border since 1986. Most Iranians consider Masoud Rajavi and his organization (MKO) as traitors. Rajavi, who hoped Iranians would bring him into power after the overthrow of the late Shah, did not side with Saddam Hussein(As many believe) in the eight year Iran-Iraq War. Rajavi did not have anyhting to do with Hussein. However, Hussein received information through logistical support and military intelligence from within Iran. As a result, Saddam Hussein attacked many Iranian cities based on the reports he got from Rajavi. Thousands of Iranians were killed in the 'war of the cities', which was launched by Iraq in 1985.
The US State Department as well as the European Union classifies it as a terrorist organisation. Increasing members of the MKO (soldiers) are starting to return to Iran and claim assylum.
