Max Webster
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Max Webster was a Canadian rock band of the late 1970s.
The band was formed in 1973 in Toronto, consisting of guitarist and vocalist Kim Mitchell, keyboardist Terry Watkinson, bassist Mike Tilka and drummer Paul Kersey. (Mitchell co-wrote most of the band's material with Pye Dubois, who was not a band member.)
Kersey and Tilka later left the band, and were replaced by Dave Myles on bass and Gary McCracken on drums.
The band was respected by fellow Canadian musicians Rush. In a 1979 interview Geddy Lee commented that he enjoyed their music and touring with them. The song "Battle Scar" was recorded live with all three members of Rush on the Universal Juveniles album. "Battle Scar" was written by Pye Dubois and Kim Mitchell. Pye Dubois was co-author to a handful of Rush songs like "Tom Sawyer".
The band was successful in Canada, with hits such as "A Million Vacations" and "Paradise Skies", although they never made it big outside of Canada. They broke up in 1981, and Mitchell has since pursued a successful solo career.
