McVitie's
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
McVitie's is a biscuit brand owned by United Biscuits. Its first major biscuit was the McVitie's Digestive, the first ever digestive biscuit, created by a new young employee called Alexander Grant in 1892. The name was derived from its high content of baking soda as an aid to food digestion.
The McVitie's Chocolate Digestive was created in 1925. Over 71 million packets of McVitie's Chocolate Digestives are eaten in the United Kingdom each year (52 biscuits per second). Hobnobs were launched in 1985 and a milk chocolate variant followed in 1987.
Some of McVitie's products were rebranded McV in 2002. The logo recently changed to a restyled version of McVitie's instead of McV, as shown on the top-right of this page.
McVitie's currently has five factories in the United Kingdom: Harlesden, Manchester, Carlisle, Glasgow and Halifax [1].
